Try to book a hotel near Airport Rail Link (ARL) since it has a station (Suvarnabhumi Station) inside the airport you don't need to get a taxi upon your arrival. But it doesn't open 24 hours - check its time table 🔗. There will be a lot of traffic in the morning and evening, so if your destination is not close by rail system stations 🔗 you should adjust your plan accordingly.
① The Posh [🔗 reviews]
It takes 26 min from the airport (Suvarnabhumi Station) to Phaya Thai Station by ARL, then walk 5 min to the hotel. It is also close by BTS (Phaya Thai Station). The first destination is The Grand Palace. The gate open at 8:30 a.m. To beat the crowd you should leave the hotel early in the morning. You may have your breakfast at the hotel or in front of the Grand Palace.
②③ The Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew [🔗 reviews]
This is the most visited place in Bangkok. Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) is inside The Grand Palace. The entrance fee is ฿500. Make sure you dress properly (cover your body, shirt with sleeves, no shorts). 🔗 Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles inside the palace is also worth a visit.
④ Wat Pho (Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm, Temple of the Reclining Buddha) [🔗 reviews]
Wat Pho is at the back of the palace. It takes about 10 min walk from the palace gate.
⑤ Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) [🔗 reviews]
To get to Wat Arun from Wat Pho, walk west to Tha Tien pier 🔗 to across Chao Phraya River. The fee is ฿4.
⑥ Krua Khun Kung restaurant [🔗 🔗 reviews]
Across back the river, then walk north along the river to Krua Khun Kung, an excellent authentic Thai restaurant, for lunch. It is inside Royal Thai Navy Club.
⑦ National Museum Bangkok [🔗 reviews]
After lunch, walk back to the palace entrance then head north along the road. The National Museum is about 800 m away from Krua Khun Kung.
⑧ Wat Benchamabophit (The Marble Temple) [🔗 reviews]
Wat Benchamabophit is 4 km away from National Museum Bangkok. Taxi will take about 15 min to get there.
⑨ Jim Thompson House [🔗 reviews]
From Wat Benchamabophit, take a taxi to Jim Thompson House. This also takes 15 min.
⑩ Bangkok Art and Culture Centre [🔗 reviews]
After leave Jim Thompson House alley, turn left and walk along the street, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is around the corner.
⑪ Sathorn Pier
Take BTS (sky train in front of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (National Stadium Station)) to Saphan Taksin Station, then get down to Sathorn Pier. The boat shuttle to Yok Yor Marina (Chao Phraya River dinner cruise) is scheduled to leave at 19:15. You should make a reservation in advance and arrive before 19:00, then call the restaurant to pick you up 🔗.
⑫ Yok Yor Marina [🔗 reviews]
Yok Yor Marina is a better alternative than buffet-type river cruises. It is not over crowded, no need to compete for your own food, and the price is reasonable. The river cruise fee is ฿200 + the food you ordered. The boat is scheduled to leave at 20:00 and return at 22:00, then take a taxi back to your hotel.
